The North Coast is rich in history, natural resources and beauty. In 1850, the Baltimore schooner Frolic shipwrecked off the Mendocino Coast, and the explorers found riches more valuable than silk.

Towering redwood forests greeted them. Mendocino’s redwood lumber industry was then born and so opened the link between this region and the rest of the world.

The New England-style of Mendocino Village still maintains a Victorian era ambiance.

Year-round flower gardens proliferate in the temperate climate, which sustains ferny trails in the five parks encompassing abalone coves, tide pools, redwoods and conifers, waterfalls and the Pygmy Forest.

From Elk to Westport, where all buildings face the sea, Highway 1 follows the breathtaking coastline.
